04.05.2024

What is National Caramel Day?

Every April 5th, caramel lovers unite to celebrate National Caramel Day—a day dedicated to indulging in one of the most beloved sweet treats. From luscious caramel drizzled over ice cream to decadent caramel-filled chocolates, there's something about the rich flavor and creamy texture of caramel that captivates our taste buds and leaves us craving for more. Join us as we dive into the history of caramel and and how Aglamesis Bros has mastered the perfect recipe over the past 115 years.

How Did Caramel Get Its Start?

Caramel has a rich and fascinating history that dates back centuries. The word "caramel" is derived from the Latin word "cannamellis," which means "sugar cane" and "honey." Early civilizations, including the ancient Egyptians and Greeks, were known to enjoy caramelized sugar as a sweet delicacy. However, it wasn't until the 17th century that caramel as we know it today began to take shape. French confectioners are credited with perfecting the art of caramelization, transforming sugar into the golden-brown confection we love.

What makes Aglamesis Bros' Caramel Special?

At Aglamesis Bros, our caramel is hand-crafted from start to finish. Over the entire course of making it, we are closely monitoring the quality, consistency, and taste. Our caramel is made with pure sugar, corn syrup, cream, and milk; the finest vanilla extract is then added and cooked in giant copper kettles to a precise temperature to bring out that delicious sincere flavor. Once the process of making the batch is finished, we hand-dip or hand-pour our goodies in our freshly-made caramel. Each and every one of our products is made with the same artisanal process that Aglamesis Bros was founded on!

How Can I Celebrate?

Aglamesis Bros has been perfecting the art of creating our own caramels since 1908. It is a long process, including maintaining the perfect temperature, speed of mixing, and addition of ingredients. Here at Aglamesis Bros, we take candy-making seriously, and it shows! If you don't believe us, take a visit to one of our locations and try some for yourself!
